Uplifting cultural experience, is one way i can definitely describe Barcelona. It was my first visit and i went there for a week and it is definitely one of the nicest places i have ever been to. I love my Spanish heritage even thought it is minimal percent, i love the language food, people, country and especially culture.
Arriving i felt so welcome by everyone, the people are just so friendly everyone talks to you and everything is about being happy and having fun, which gives an amazing atmosphere. I love being 'Dipped in Culture' soaking in every traditional place there possibly is in Barcelona.
During my stay i happened to fall into Sant Joan Festival, which is the most important feast day to the Catalans and celebrating the start of summer throughout the city through bonfires and fireworks. there are three symbols: Fire- for purity. Water- for healing and Herbs- for rememdy. 'Night of Fire' is the night of the celebration where everyone goes to the beach lighting fireworks and bonfires partying till morning, this is not one to be missed i had such a good time.
Antoni Gaudi: The most famous architect in Barcelona. La Sagrada Familia is such a nice building to visit, there is detail in every crack you could stand looking at it forever. I don't know anyone that wouldn't want to get married there. The amazing thing about it is he took his architectural influences from his experience in life, something as simple as bees he studied the way they build their honeycombs and recognised therm as the most creative natural architects in the world.
Camden: A London born influence but interpreted into Barcelona qualities. Full of raw culture and natural talent. I obviously enjoyed the clothes most out of everything. just because it was so unique and different without trying to hard which is something London culture is lacking.
Some shops to check out:
-Kling
-Parfois
-OXS
MACBA: Had an exhibition featuring Eulalia Grau 'I have never painted golden angels'. Images taken from the early 70s, but the crisis of the events happening at the time, often related to the press, in line with political and economic powers, the ideas of controlled, censured, unjust and male dominated society. Her exhibition is displayed as a visual story of subjects that have interested her. If you like, Politics, Art and culture i strongly recommend in viewing it.
