THE LITTLE DRESS OF BLACK

I never used to wear black, I must have been pretty lost

Dress: Zara

Summer is the weirdest time of year to fall in love with black, clothes are meant to reflect emotion, at the moment I have none

Crop Top: H&M // Shorts: American Apparel

The dress code at my internship was black and white which is how I first fell in love. Now I've finished my internship, finished uni and I'm home for summer, but I'm still wearing black, I'm addicted. I love coming home back into the country side, refreshing and calm, takes all the stressful thoughts away.

I feel as though I look a bit like Wednesday, but thats good because I like Wednesday

MULBERRY

During the Easter break I have been interning at Mulberry. I started in February for London Fashion Week which was a great experience of hard work, although it was a shame that Mulberry didn't have a show at Somerset House, but the Claridges dinner did work well in their favour.

Firstly the office was amazing; such a nice environment. Whilst working there, I was so involved I really felt like a part of the team.

I had a lot of responsibilities throughout the day, starting in the morning by looking through press for coverage or mentions, but also any news on the fashion role, which was then reported back into the morning meeting, the coverage is then scanned throughout the day and sent to everyone in the company as 'latest press'.

I was working closely with social media, so I was active on all their platforms. Also, I had to find new and upcoming UK bloggers that would be appropriate for Mulberry , which was great for me as I love looking up new blogs, I then had to research a bit about the blogger, their viewers and their circulation rating. I had all the bloggers in a database which I had to present in the meetings, which was really helpful in getting me in the habit of presenting professionally.

During my time at Mulberry there was a press day, it was really good greeting press at the door and being able to put a face to a name and start building relationships with them.

After being at Mulberry for three months I was lucky enough to see what happens daily within the press calendar, I was especially lucky to attend the preview meeting for the new collection, and it was really interesting to hear where they got all their inspiration from and how that turned into a collection.

I feel like now that I've worked at Mulberry I have had an insight into the luxury market which is where I want to go, so I feel like I've definitely crossed a new path in order to get to the level I want to go when I graduate.

VANESSA KINGORI

Vanessa Kingori - Publisher of British GQ Style, Associate Publisher Fashion at British GQ

Walking into the room i could feel the warmth of Vanessa's presence, greeting every student with delight because they had come to listen to her. Seeing her in person definitely does her justice, tall and slim you would mistake her for a model.

Talking about any difficulties she went through growing up, she was very honest in stating, the fact she went to a catholic school and being the only black girl and tall, made her noticeable, but within her favour she appreciated being an individual.

Always having her head down and working hat on, she eventually went to university and studied management and sociology, but her genuine love in is what has allowed her to succeed in her role.

Giving a breakdown of her life, she starts by explaining her first job in a shop: My first job after uni was in retail a small boutique in Central London, which I loved, I'm a fashion feeder so all the people coming in and buying expensive clothes I was fascinated by,  but also I had to wear the clothes as uniform so it was a bonus, you know like free clothes. I would always advise anyone that wants to go into the fashion industry definitely work in retail.

So after that I then went into events, which was really tiring planning events and finishing at one in the morning to be in and working by 9am the next day. So my friend advised me about a job as then associate at the time for an independent before getting a job at GQ, at first I didn't even realise the role existed.

Intrigued to know what work goes into producing a GQ issue she explains the projects, the things to consider and the things: When it comes to collaborative projects it's with editorials mainly, where we have a meeting and brainstorm about the new season, plans for the next magazine, does it fit with the demographic, will it sell. These are all the questions we have to ask because our decision could make or break the product.

Thinking about whether magazines have become over saturated with advertisements: When you look at glossy magazines advertising should enhance the experience, you want to know what the next campaign is going to be.

With the age of digital innovation, keeping an audience interested is key: Everybody always wants to learn something new, we have to keep changing the pace because we all have a shorter attention pace with the digital age and we have to keep the concentration throughout 300 pages. When looking on the boards of minis too many visuals so we have to add some writing to break it up, careful to give readers a new experience have a large demographic upmarket.

Digital challenges and balancing with advertising: digital Debate really interesting but digital has enhanced our business embracing the possibilities and what digital can open us up to, as people don't have daily access in the the place it's not just a publication it's a brand, whichever way the readers want to access the brand we are there and doing it well we say what's going in during the month and promote the content in the magazine which has been really helpful in that way.

The brilliance of GQ: 21 international additions brilliant global footprint what's really good about British GQ is that represents the British man where your rooted in now is really valuable, trends start here. We are grateful for building a brand equity and built it into the right types of places, along the way we debated if it would work in other markets like GQ comedy night.

It's important not to allow ones self to be pigeon hold or live by other peoples labels so if you allow your self to adopt you loosing before you began, you have to push past peoples conceptions and be the best of yourself.

BURBERRY

So recently I have had a bit of luck come my way, which doesn't happen to me often. While at uni working on my project, I got a pop up email about a job at Boden, but I was an unsuccessful candidate. So I just thought I'm going to apply for the best job I could think of - of course Burberry.

Scrolling through their vacancies I applied for a Head Office position in the HR department, as you can image I received an email the next day, again unsuccessful. Then, something crazy happened, I received a call from a burberry HR member, she said although I was unsuitable for the role I applied for, she would like me to come in for an interview as she thinks they have something they can offer me.

Scared and nervous I got a dress from Zara and went to my interview the next day. It was a very long process with very strong candidates, that were older than me and all spoke a second language.

I got sent home earlier than I planned; just as I was telling my sister how it went and why I didn't get the job,  I got a call from the store manager offering me a part-time sales associate position at Regent Street.

Extremely happy, I worked through Christmas and loved it, three months later and still going strong. so now in my spare time, thats where I am. It can be so tiring sometimes, but the clients you deal with are so interesting, they come from all over the world and have so many stories to tell, its great inspiration and I enjoy assisting them.

Working at Burberry has many great perks, they have a lot of in store events for private clients and VIPs. Every season for fashion week they have a live screening in store, for press and private clients. Plus, there are always activities or social events for stuff, so its great having fun with the team. So not only is it a great part-time job for me as a fashion student, it could be a great path for me when I graduate, so thats my plan.
